| SOUTHERN SHOWCASE KENNELS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
| How much do you charge for a pup? Please refer to the "puppies page" on my website for current pricing. We try to stay in mid- range of the going price for AB puppies. We do not claim to have a corner on the market or the most magnificent dogs in the world. Nor do we have a yard full of sickly, low quality animals. We charge what we feel is a fair price for what we offer: good, sound American Bulldogs. I do offer the pups at two different prices: standard pricing with a "one-year health guarantee" or a lower price only if you opt not to take the health guarantee. The lower price offer is in response to the frequent request for discount pricing. If I agree to go a little lower on price then naturally you would agree to give a little on your end also. What form of payment do you accept? Our prefered method of payment is an online transaction made with a major credit card through the PayPal link on our Puppy Purchase Agreement Page. We will also accept a "USPS" money order mailed via a delivery service providing us with a verifiable tracking number. We no longer accept cashiers checks or personal checks. Why all of the hassle such as requiring a phone interview and signed puppy puppy purchase agreement? As a frequent credit card user myself, I fully understood both its convenience and downfalls. A major downfall is buying things on a whim. Southern Showcase Kennels tries their best to make certain that any pups that leave our premises go to long-term caring homes. If an individual is willing to interview with us over the phone, read and sign our “puppy purchase agreement”, we can feel much better that this pup is going to a home of someone that is looking to gain a long- term pet companion. Remember, buying an American Bulldog pup, (whether from us or someone else), should not be done on a whim. These are living creatures that require a lot of time, attention and resources. The cuteness of puppies and the novelty of owning a bulldog can wear-off shortly after purchase. Be certain you have done your homework and committed yourself before making a hasty purchase for a child’s Christmas, girlfriend’s Valentines or boyfriend’s birthday gift. How can I reserve a particular puppy? You must first contact me via phone, (251-607-7353), or email, (inquiries@southernshowcase. com), and discuss with me your intent to purchase. After a brief interview, I will determine at my discretion if you are a suitable candidate. If approved, I will provide you with the necessary information to complete the transaction. The transaction will include a $200 non-refundable deposit of “acceptable” form and a signed “puppy purchase agreement”. If you do not send the “acceptable” form of payment along with a signed “puppy purchase agreement”, I will not honor your reservation and your materials will be mailed back to you in a courteous fashion. What length of time can a pup be reserved? Pup reservations can be placed around 3-4 weeks of age and reserved up until they are ready to travel via airline, ground pet transport or personal pick-up at the age of 8-9 weeks. If a pup requires an extended stay past 9 weeks of age, then prior arrangements must be made. If prior arrangements have not been made you agree that you have chosen to forfeit the pup and the pup deposit. The prior arrangements will include a prepaid boarding fee of $5.00 per day to cover my time, feeding, vaccinations and the reimbursement of any and all veterinary care expenses incurred prior to the pup leaving Southern Showcase's premises. Southern Showcase will not board a pup on reserve past the age of 12 weeks old. If you fail to compensate, reimburse and/or receive the reserved pup before the age of 12 weeks then you will forfeit your deposit, the boarding fees and your rights to own the pup. I will then place the deserted pup up for sale to a new approved home of my discretion. If a guaranteed pup dies from parvo, coccidiosis, corona, lepto or distemper while in Southern Showcase's care we will refund your deposit price but will not be obligated to supply another pup unless the full purchase price has already been received. If a reserved pup that is not guaranteed is left beyond the normal age for shipping, (8-9 weeks), Southern Showcase will not be held responsible for events or actions such as but not limited to severe weather that adversely affect the welfare of the pup and the pup deposit will be forfeited. How do you ship a pup? Puppy travel is accomplished in one of two ways: air or ground transport. Air travel is via Delta Cargo from the Mobile Regional Airport to most other major airports in the US. Travel via air is an additional expense paid for beforehand by the puppy purchaser costing between $250 and $300 if shipped at 8 weeks of age or shortly thereafter. The cost of travel via air covers the actual airfare charges, the veterinarian’s office visit including a fecal exam, the charges for the USDA required health certificate and letter of acclamation, the travel crate with accessories including padding, bowls, labels and a small bag of dry dog food. Air transport is limited to good weather conditions. The USDA categorizes the American Bulldog in the snub-nose category, which limits air travel to temperatures within 30 degrees Fahrenheit at the lowest and 70 degrees Fahrenheit at the highest. This temperature range is a required factor for the pup’s entire trip schedule. If the temperature is either above or below the USDA allowable range at any point of the scheduled route, the pup will not fly. Air travel for pups out of Mobile is generally limited between the months of November and April. The advantage of flying is the short amount of time the pup spends in transit but the downside is the limited travel window due to weather. Ground transport is via Dixie Pet Express. Ground transport is an additional expense paid for beforehand by the puppy purchaser costing $300 if shipped at 8 weeks of age or shortly thereafter. Ground transport is not limited to the weather conditions. The pup will be traveling in a climatically controlled van. The driver stops frequently, (about every 3-4 hours), to water/feed the pup and allow time for a rest room break. The advantage to ground transport is the personal attention the pup receives but the downside is the extra amount of travel time. Travel can be as little as one day or as much as one week depending on where you are located in relation to Mobile, AL and the driver’s route. Can you provide references? Not a problem, see the “customer referrals page” on this website. How large do your pups grow? On average the males will range between 80-90 lbs when mature and the females between 65- 75 lbs when mature. Dog breeding is not an exact science nor can I control what DNA does so if they go a little heavier or lighter when mature please understand. My response to this question is relative to what I have produced thus far. Are your dogs the Johnson or Scott type? I favor more of the Scott type dog. However, my long term goal is to produce a thicker, heavier boned AB with a good muzzle length, large square head, great temperament, fluid movement, sound structure, good health, dark pigment and consistent red brindle color with white markings. If this includes introducing Johnson bloodlines into my program I am open to the challenge. I am working towards a long-term goal and not choosing sides with differing factions within the AB community. What do you look for in an American Bulldog? A good sound animal that looks like a bulldog and acts like the White English dogs I grew up with. My immediate family owned 3 of these dogs, (Bull, Buttons and SweetPea), at different times in the mid 70s while living in Central Florida. These dogs loved people, were gentle with children but were very weary of strangers until properly introduced. These dogs displayed the natural instinct to “catch” but were not out of control or unruly. I remember my grandfather, (Ezra Carter – now deceased), telling of loving and owning the White English dogs in his youth on the farms of South Georgia. What do you feed your dogs? We feed our dogs Diamond Brand kibble. We use two varieties: Chicken and Rice; Lamb and Rice. Both varieties are corn and wheat free. See the following images located below that were scanned from the actual Diamond bags. |
